On September 20, 1519, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand de Magellan set sail under the Spanish flag with a fleet of five ships and 237 men. While Magellan did not survive this perilous journey (he passed away on April 27, 1521), his fleet (what remained of it) successfully circumnavigated the globe, reaching Spain via the Cape of Good Hope, thus completing the first-ever circumnavigation of the world.
The epic voyage of this extraordinary journey serves as the backdrop for the VR game « Orbis. » Magellan’s expedition provides a unique opportunity to transport players into uncharted territory through a virtual reality game where survival and success depend on our ability to manage ourselves and communicate with people from distant lands using our hands.
In this project, our studio is responsible for the artistic aspects: design, modeling, rigging, animation, compositing, rendering, and other elements that will be integrated into the VR game. The development is being handled by the American studio Ink Studio. « Orbis » marked our first collaboration with a U.S.-based studio.
We are currently in the artistic prototype stage of the VR game.
